I have used Gotoh's and Sperzel's on other guitars, and these are probably my new favorites. Always start tuning with the lowest string (G3) and then proceed to the higher ones: D4. But if the instrument is completely off-pitch, you’ll need to start with adjusting the pegs, and use the fine tuners at the end to finish the tuning.

Install was easier than any other tuner swap I have done, and the fit and finish is perfect. If your violin is only slightly out-of-tune, using fine tuners alone may be enough. I couldn't be happier with the Hipshot tuners at this point. Installation was a snap and they look and feel perfect now. I also opted for some replacement vintage style tuner buttons to replace the standard "T" style Hipshot buttons. I am a big fan of the look of the open back tuners too. On the 3+3 style headstocks, it might stand out a little more since it would bridge the gap between all the tuners with a thin plate.įunctionally the tuners are very smooth and with an 18:1 ratio they work great. The tuners pretty much cover most of it up so you really don't even notice it either. I think with the 6-in-line style, this plate is fantastic. Plus, it covered all the existing holes from the Fender tuners leaving a very clean install that literally took 5 minutes. The plate fits snugly to the tuners holding them in place very well and looks great. I opted for the UMP so I didn't have to drill new holes in my headstock. Well, I got them installed last night and I am VERY impressed. Since I wasn't able to find a whole lot of reviews, I thought I'd post one. I decided on a set of Hipshot Griplock tuners and got a set with the open back style and that came with their UMP (Universal Mount Plate) kit. I decided I wanted to get a set of locking tuners on it, and had been looking at my options. So I got an American Standard Tele a little while back on a trade and have been upgrading things here and there to make it just a little better.
